You cannot be in fear and joy at the same time.
Think about that for a moment.
There are quite a few events going on right now, externally and internally, that by all accounts are FEAR-inducing.
I honor that experience for me and for you right now.
BUT there is space for JOY.
Here's the thing...joy does not arise only from big events or only when there is peace.
Nope!
Joy can be found in something as simple as a smile, a bird’s song, the laughter of your children or the snoring of your pet from the other room.
Joy is totally an inside job!
Which is great because that means we have influence over when and how we experience it.
So, no matter what is happening externally around you right now, take one moment and smile. Smile because you are alive, smile because these outward situations won't last forever.
Now observe...
in that moment when you opened the door to the possibility of joy, did you feel fear?
It might only have lasted for a moment, and maybe you are back to feeling the fear again. That's OK!
But now you get to choose. Where are you going to focus your attention? On the things you cannot control? Or on the feelings that you can?
